Maniac Magee

by Jerry Spinelli

Jeffrey Lionel "Maniac" Magee might have lived a normal life if a freak accident hadn't made him an orphan. After living with his unhappy and uptight aunt and uncle for eight years, he decides to run--and not just run away, but run. This is where the myth of Maniac Magee begins, as he changes the lives of a racially divided small town with his amazing and legendary feats.

  1. The book Maniac Magee is about a town that is strictly segregated. The colored live in the East end and the non-colored lived in the West end and NO ONE passed Hector Street that separated the town. However, there was one boy who didn't care who was what color. He was Maniac Magee. He lived with three non-colored families and two colored families. He had friends from both sides of town and really didn't see the big deal in what color you were. Maniac helped both sides see the good in each other. This is something I always try to do, see the good in everyone.
