Buy This Book!

Seaglass Summer

By Anjali Banerjee

This is our first book of the summer.  It was recommended by our friend Erin Quinn.  Erin loved this book and thought it would be a good read for our book club.  We can't wait to hear what the Bookworm Buddies have to say about this story about a girl who can't wait to grow up.

  3. I agree with Maggie I really felt like I was part of the story. It's as if I was Poppy experiencing this vacation. This book is defiantly one of my favorites because of the description.

  4. I have to say I love that most of the main characters are Indian. I think that it's the first book club that had people from India. I agree with Maggie and Mikalyla about how the book has a lot of details and descriptions. I loved this book, it's one of my all time favorite books because I can relate to the characters and because the details make me feel like I am in the story.

  5. Thank you for reading SEAGLASS SUMMER for your book club. Many of the stories in the novel are based on true events. As part of my research, I interviewed a local veterinarian and sat in on appointments at a local animal clinic.

    1. Hi Ms. Banerjee! Thank you very much for reading and posting on our blog! Our book club is meeting on Friday to discuss the book Seaglass Summer, and I am so excited and can't wait to talk about how much I loved it! One of the things I liked most about this book is your writing style. The way you described the air on the island, each character in detail, the pain the animals were in and Poppy's anxiety on the plane ride made me feel like I was there. I also liked that Poppy learns that growing up isn't as easy as she thought it would be. This is a good message for kids because kids should enjoy their childhood while it lasts.

    2. Thank you so much for reading our blog and especially commenting on it! It means a lot to us considering you are an author of a really good book that we are either reading or read. I really liked your book and I am very enthusiastic about the fact you actually read our blog! You were the first author to comment and read our blog and we are all very thankful to you!
I loved your book because of the same reasons as Maggie, Mikayla, and Chiara, along with, it was a book that I couldn't stop reading! I love when I read, but on vacation I couldn't stop reading your fantastic book! It was suspenseful, descriptive, and relatable, which I noticed no one talked about but Chiara. I related to it in so many ways, that if I made a list on here, my computer would break into flames!!!!!!

  7. This was one of my favorite books too. It was one of my favorites because I am a big fan of animals. In the book, whenever an animal was hurt, Doc (Uncle Sanjay) fixed them and helped them heal. I also liked that some of the animals had babies. I love baby animals, they are so cute! The one thing that I didn't like was that Marmalade (the cat) died, but I thought it was nice that Mr.Pincus made a grave for Marmalade and put catnip all around the grave in his backyard.
This book reminded me of Chiara, because Poppy's parents and herself are Indian

  10. Thank you all again for reading the book and for your thoughtful comments! I also interviewed an Indian veterinarian living in Connecticut, who started his practice out of a rickety truck with only one working door. He now owns two busy animal hospitals. He volunteers for the town, as well, saving injured or sick wild animals. He once waded out into a lake to remove a barbed hook from a swan's mouth. He had many stories to tell. Uncle Sanjay is sort of based on him.
